“You can fly, you can fly!”, “A dream is a wish your heart makes,” and “We are all connected in the great circle of life.” These are all fine examples of great Disney quotes, and it’s easy to understand why they’re all so memorable. They might come from a song, a catchphrase, or the central message of the movie, but they have their ways of sticking with the audience.
On the other side of that coin, there are those lines that linger because of their strange, unusual, or simply absurd quality. They might not be the quotes that end up on tee shirts or college dorms, but they left fans scratching their heads for a long time.
Updated on September 22nd, 2022, by Lynn Gibbs: Disney is more than great storytelling and animation, it’s known for its musicals and quotes as well. Disney fans become attached to different characters, and oftentimes, memorize their lines due to the number of times they’ve rewatched the movie. However, Disney’s writers aren’t perfect. From Robin Hood to Frozen II, there are a handful of quotes that are so random and out of character for Disney that they’ve left an impression on fans.
Olaf – Frozen II
This quote gets added as one of Disney’s more random quotes because of the number of memes that came from it. Olaf has had plenty of great quotes throughout Frozen, but this was one that was the most obscure. Leave it to Olaf to make something as simple as a name like “Samantha” into a quote that sticks within the dark recesses of the audience’s mind.
While the quote “Samantha” doesn’t appear funny outside of context, it was a hilarious part of the movie. When Olaf got separated from Anna and Elsa, he was seen in the woods calling out their names. He also cried out for a woman named Samantha. Funny enough, Olaf didn’t know a Samantha, he just wanted to see if anyone would respond. As random as it is, it’s one of Disney’s more random quotes.
“Did They Give You A Name Along With All Those Rippling Pectorals?”
Megara – Hercules
There were some inspirational quotes throughout Disney’s Hercules, but this wasn’t one of them… In fact, this was one of the most random lines thrown in a kids’ movie — let alone Disney’s!
As an in-shape, God-like figure, Hercules was both handsome and strong. When he first met Megara, she introduced herself and said this quote before Hercules could introduce himself. Talking about his “rippling pectorals” was definitely off-brand for the family-friendly brand.
“I Thought The Earth Wasn’t Supposed To Move Until The Honeymoon.”
Genie – Aladdin And The King Of Thieves
There’s no denying that Aladdin and Genie had a great friendship, but perhaps they were too comfortable with each other when Genie threw this joke towards his best friend after he married Princess Jasmine.
In the sequel to Aladdin, Aladdin And The King Of Thieves, Aladdin and Jasmine are getting married in front of most of the city. During the ceremony, the villain poked an elephant to make a stampede of sorts to occur, causing loud rumblings throughout the ceremony. Genie then threw in this joke, which seemed far-fetch from the rated-G Genie that everyone knew and love. It was a random addition to the scene that the movie could have done without.
“The Party Lasted An Entire Week, And Honestly, I Don’t Remember Most Of It.”
Flynn Rider – Tangled
At the end of Tangled, Rapunzel was able to save herself with the help of Flynn Rider. Although the two got off on the wrong foot and tolerated one another on their adventure to the castle, they wound up becoming friends by the end of the movie.
Rapunzel and Flynn took such a liking to each other that they were willing to get hurt in order to save the other. In the end, it was implied that the two were no romantically linked. Flynn even made this wise-crack about drinking so much that he didn’t remember most of their celebratory happenings. Since it was the end of the movie, this seemed like a random quote in Tangled that didn’t need to happen.
“Kevin’s A Girl?”
Russel – Up
Even though Up opened up with a death scene, it’s one of the most beloved Disney/Pixar movies. The film showed the quiet life that an older man named Carl lived before meeting a Junior Wilderness Explorer named Russell. Russell said some silly things in the movie since he was a child, including not knowing the gender of a large tropical bird. In his defense, it’s hard to assign a gender to something like the big goony-looking bird of Paradise Falls. Still, this has become one of the most remembered moments from Pixar’s Up.
Perhaps it’s the absurdity of the creature in question, or maybe it’s the delivery from the young explorer, but it still stands out as one of either character’s best moments.
“The Garbage Will Do.”
Rey – The Force Awakens
It’s ironically comic hearing two rookie adventurers of the galaxy far, far, away refer to the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs as a piece of junk, but on the other, it’s easy to see how this quote could have a more understandable application. So many classic vehicles have been mislabeled before that Rey and Finn’s mistake has been made many times over.
While it might sound like heresy to call the Millennium Falcon anything other than the fastest ship in the galaxy, this line still sticks with both Star Wars and Disney fans alike. It might not be very accurate, but it does have a comical charm.
“You’re Just Jealous Because I’m Pretty!”
Agent Pleakley – Lilo And Stitch
Speaking of comical quotes… Never has a Disney character had more fun with a wig than Agent Pleakley from Lilo and Stitch. Alone, he’s a silly and high-strung cycloptic creature who’s not in Kansas anymore. But when he’s saddled with his four-eyed friend Jumbaa, things get wonderfully ridiculous.
This quote perfectly summed up this former villain. Before he’s made into a mosquito buffet, the two have a small tussle over one of Pleakley’s wigs, to which he yelps out this little gem. Hardly the behavior of an interplanetary expert, but still one of his more memorable moments.
“And Then I Shove The Crackers Down His Throat…”
Iago – Aladdin
Iago isn’t the most lovable Disney sidekick at the best of times, but he’s probably the only bird who could make the sentence above sound menacing. Of course, having the voice of Gilbert Gottfried adds a bit of malice in Aladdin as well.
Sometimes, a parrot can only take so much. After all, being force-fed stale Ritz crackers day after day will push anyone over the edge. Once Jafar comes into power, he’s able to get a bit of payback against the Sultan’s constant cracker shoving.
“No Icing People At My Wedding!”
Fru Fru – Zootopia
Fru Fru is probably best known for this line towards the end of Zootopia’s second act. Despite her chipper and perky personality, having a notorious mob boss for a dad probably has more than a few hiccups.
Since she’s able to walk straight into Mr. Big’s office while he’s got his mitts on two victims prepped for the frigid ice-hole beneath, this is not the first time she’s seen someone get dropped to their frozen doom. A goofy line to be sure, but one with possibly dark connotations. Either way, this is a random Disney quote that lives rent-free in fans’ heads.
“I’ve Got A Dirty Thumb…”
Prince John – Robin Hood
Prince John is easily one of the funniest Disney’s villains. There’s always something hysterical about rotten kids in adult bodies who wield a great deal of power. Case in point, the phony king of England with a terrible temper along with a few other childish habits.
Thumb-sucking aside, this isn’t the only strange utterance the mama’s boy monarch has uttered in Robin Hood, but it’s certainly one that lingers after his scenes have ended. Sometimes it’s better to have an antagonist worthy of ridicule rather than fear.
“He Touched The Butt!”
Nemo’s Friend – Finding Nemo
It’s hard telling how many young children grew up tossing this phrase around on the playground, and they have Finding Nemo to thank for it. The initial humor lies in the miswording for “boat,” but the longevity of this overplayed saying is due to its silly and, let’s face it, childish nature of it.
Walt Disney once said “Adults are only kids grown up anyway” and that can clearly be represented by the resonance of this line. It shouldn’t be as memorable as it is, but its one of Finding Nemo’s best quotes.
“I Don’t Do That Tongue Thing.”
Mushu – Mulan
In the wrong context, this line has some pretty naughty implications to it. That being said, it makes sense when Mushu is correcting his species in Mulan. Though it’s hard thinking of anywhere fans would use this line in normal conversation, it’s perfectly fitting for a dragon with a bit of attitude.
While Mushu is definitely a serpentine creature, he’d much rather use that forked tongue to sling out some of Eddie Murphy’s classic zingers rather than catch prey or other reptilian activities. Even so, it’s still a very in-character quote (and one of Mushu’s best quotes) for the Fa Family guardian.
“Ya Wanna Get Out Of Here? Get Rid Of That Monkey!”
Chatter Telephone – Toy Story 3
The award for the weirdest and most random Disney quote has to go to this one from the Jack-Nicholson-sounding Chatter Telephone at Sunnyside Daycare. For something that comes out of a Toy Story movie, it boggles the brain just how strange this sentence sounds in any context.
Fans of the franchise thought Toy Story 3 would have been the perfect finale to the franchise, especially with the evil dynamics created by those like this monkey at Sunnyside Daycare. The oddity of this is quote is almost like the mind can’t fathom the absurdity of what sounds like a fresh order of word salad. Then again, that’s to be expected when an evil wind-up monkey is put in charge of security detail of a child’s daycare.
